This is a superb antique French kitchen towel rack / accroche torchon dating from about 1900.

It is made from enamelled metal and is a substantial piece. The enamel is in a fresh shade of white, marbelled with blue.

Across the middle of the rack are the words ' MAINS' (hands), VERRES' (glasses), 'COUTEAUX' (knives), and 'VAISSELLE' (dishes). Beneath each of these is the hook for the corresponding towel.

The rack has 2 sturdy tabs with slots for attaching to a wall or cupboard.

The enamel has distressed and mellowed in places from the passage of time.

It measures :-  W 37 cm (14.5 inches) X H 10 cm (4 inches).
