B1846 - Magnificent Antique French Cast Iron Swan Chateau Door Knocker & Plate Set 19th Century

This is a magnificent antique French cast iron door knocker set dating from the 19th Century. It is a really substantial example of it's type and with it's plate weighs nearly 1.9 kg!

To the front of the knocker is a swan's head resting upon it's elegant neck. The neck then continues down to form the ball of the knocker.

The back bracket from which the knocker is hinged is also substantial and decorative.

The knocker has it's original plate against which it hammers. We have left the set as we found it. Both the knocker itself and the plate have a threaded bolt for fixing to a door. The nut on the knocker will unscrew but the bolt remains firm. The bolt on the plate unscrews but the nut remains firm (please see photos).

The cast iron has mellowed over the years to a fabulous patina.

The knocker measures :- 19 cm (7.5 inches) high x 7.5 cm (2.9 inches) wide x approx 9 cm (3.5 inches) deep.

The knocker plate measures 7.5 cm (2.9 inches) diameter.
