B1897 - Superb Large Antique French Gesso On Wood Gilded Oval Picture Frame, Bow Crest

This is a superb antique French gesso on wood gilded picture frame dating from the 19th Century. It is full of timeworn charm and is the perfect size to take a family portrait.

The frame is oval in shape and has a divine bow crest with ribbon tails falling to each side.

The gilding on the gesso has mellowed over the years to a wonderful atmospheric patina. It is perfect for that 'always been there' look or of course it could be regilded if required.

The frame is sturdy. There are one or two minor areas of distressing ( one where the wire shows at the side of the bow, please see photos ) and fine cracks to the gesso but all is stable.

The frame has two metal loops on the back for hanging purposes.

It measures :- 51.5 cm (20.25 inches) high x 35.5 cm (14 inches) wide.
The aperture is :- 38 cm (14.9 inches) high x 28.5 cm (11.25 inches) wide.
