B2188 - Sublime Antique French Tooled Leather Travel Altar On Stand, Gilded Virgin Mary

This is a sublime antique French travel altar. It is of a perfect size to sit on a bedside table.

It is made in wood and is covered in tooled leather in a rich dark brown hue. The actual altar is held on an integral stand. Within the altar is a tiny gilded statue of the Virgin Mary beneath which 'SANCTA MARIA' is gold embossed.

The back of the altar is lined with a metallic fabric. The back and front of the altar and the base of the statue are trimmed with wire passementerie.

The contours of the leather are gold embossed and the maker's / retailer's name and address are gold embossed on the back.

The altar is in good antique condition. The leather has scuffed a little with the passage of time.

The altar measures :- 22.25 cm (8.7 inches) high x 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) wide x 3.75 cm (1.4 inches) deep.
