This is a magnificent pair of  large antique French gilded metal curtain pole holders in the Empire style and dating from the 1800's. They are very substantial and would  be suitable for holding a rod carrying heavy château curtains. 

The fascia of each holder has a stunning shell crest and acanthus leaf detail. 

Each holder has a ring to take the pole. There is a hole at the top of the ring to take a screw to secure the pole in place. There is a square hole and a screw hole on each backplate for fixing to a wall. 

The gilding on the metal has a lovely antique hue while still retaining golden highlights. 

Each pole holder measures :- H 29 cm (11.4 inches) x W 6.75 cm (2.6 inches) x D 15 cm (5.9 inches).  The inside diameter of the ring is 4.5 cm (1.75 inches).
