This is a superb vintage French woven tapestry wall hanging dating around the mid 1900's. It has a 17th Century hunting scene and is after an 18th Century Aubusson tapestry. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch and would look superb in a country house home.

The scene is a fabulous rural vista with stunning trees and a lake in the background.  Magnificent stags are being pursued by huntsmen with their dogs.  All around is lush vegetation. 

A narrow border frames this stunning scene.

The colours are atmospheric shades of brown and green with touches of claret and blue in the costumes.

The tapestry is woven in cotton and is of good quality. It is in good vintage condition with some minor characteristics of age. There is a sepia watermark to both sides of the foliage on the central trees and a small pink watermark above the foliage (please see photos). There is a tiny knick on the very top edge of the border. None of these characteristics draw the eye from the overall splendour of this marvelous tapestry.

The tapestry has not been dry cleaned.

It measures :- 173 cm (5 ft 8.1 inches) wide x 145 cm (4 ft 9 inches) high.
