B2193 - Magnificent Antique French Gothic Style Brass Gate Bell With Clapper, 19th Century

This is a magnificent antique French brass gate bell dating from the 19th Century. It is large and impressive and would grace the grandest château. 

It is in the Gothic style and is very decorative. It has a back plate with 2 rectangular holes for hanging purposes. The bell is suspended from a bracket at right angles to the back plate. This has Gothic imagery including griffins and a fleur de lys.

The bell is operated by pulling on the chain of a hinged lever with a bird and a creature half cockerel, half dragon.

The clapper of the bell is large and heavy and the bell rings loud and clear.

The bell is very substantial weighing 2.8 kg. It is of very good quality.

It measures :- 34 cm (13.3 inches) x 19.5 wide (7.6 inches) x 21.25 (8.3 inches) deep.
