B1416 - Gorgeous Antique French Double Handled Basket / Handbag, Superb Condition, C1920

This gorgeous antique French basket dating from about 1920, has survived the years in amazing condition. It is not only extremely stylish but also very usable.

It is rectangular in shape with a domed lid. There are 2 plaited handles hanging from very sturdy rivets. The lid has two very thick leather hinges.

The lid fits snugly onto the body of the basket. There is a cute turning 'key' which probably once held a leather strap, now not missed.

The basket sits on a woven base. The basketwork is finely executed and is in excellent firm condition. It is in an atmospheric black with dark burgundy and tan detail.

The maximum measurements of the body of the basket are :- 35 cm (13.5 inches) wide x 22 cm (8.75 inches) deep x 25 cm (9.75 inches) high.
